Day 0
When you arrive in Lombok, whether at the airport or by boat, our staff will pick you up and transfer you to our hotel and office in Senaru. Upon arrival in Senaru, you will meet our staff to complete your registration and have a short briefing with your guide. You will learn about the trekking procedures and prepare for the trip.
If you arrive at least 1 hour before sunset, you can visit the Sindang Gile and Tiu Kelep Waterfalls. Note: You can arrive on the same day as the trek, but we recommend coming the day before and spending the night to avoid delays.
Day 1: 7-8 Hours
Once you wake up at the hotel, our guide will pick you up in the lobby at 6:30 AM and take you to the Rinjani Information Center (RIC) in Senaru (601 m) for registration, meeting your guide, and obtaining your National Park entry ticket. The first hours of the trek will take you through tropical forests with open views of rich flora and fauna, such as enormous trees, beautiful orchids, wild birds, butterflies, and more.
If lucky, you might see black monkeys known as langurs. The journey continues to post 2, Montong SATAS shelter (1,500 m), where we will rest and gather energy while porters prepare soft drinks, crackers, and fresh fruits like bananas and pineapples.
Depending on your preference and weather conditions, we will camp either in the forest at post 3, Mondokon Lokak (2,000m), or continue the ascent to Senaru Crater Rim (2,641m). From post 3, we will pass through savanna with open views. The trail steepens, but the beautiful scenery over Senaru village provides a chance to break at Cemara Lima before heading to the Senaru Crater Rim (2,641m).
At the crater rim, you will enjoy sweeping views across Lake Segara Anak (2,000m) to the summit of Mt. Rinjani. On a clear evening, the Gili Islands, Bali, and Mt. Agung can be seen to the west. We camp, enjoy dinner, and spend the night here.
Day 2: 6 Hours
From 6:30 AM – 8:00 AM, we will have breakfast and relax before descending to Lake Segara Anak (2,000 m) within the Rinjani crater. The trek route here is steep and rocky, with your guide and porters providing assistance. Mt. Baru (2,351m) is an island in the lake and an active volcano, last erupting dramatically in 1994. We will pass numerous Edelweiss plants, known as Bunga Abadi, to the crater rim camp for a well-deserved lunch.
It takes about two to three hours to descend the steep trail to the crater lake, where we will spend the night. The rest of the day is spent relaxing, swimming in the lake, and exploring the caves and hot springs, believed to have healing powers.
Day 3: 8-9 Hours
At 2:30 AM, we will enjoy a light breakfast and prepare for the challenging three-hour climb to the summit (3,726 m). Upon reaching the summit, you will experience the feeling of freedom and satisfaction, along with stunning sunrise views across the Wallace Line to Bali, Mt. Agung, and Sumbawa. At 6:30 AM, an optional tour departs from the summit to Sembalun Crater Rim Camp – walking time approximately 1.5 hours. After a well-prepared breakfast, we will continue with a gentle ascent, walking amidst Casuarina trees, known locally as “Cemara”, and possibly seeing evidence of wild pigs and long-tailed grey macaque monkeys.
We will rest at post 3, Pada Balong (1,800 m), and enjoy a lunch break. We reach post 2, Tengengean (1,500 m), to enjoy beautiful views of Mt. Rinjani summit (3,726 m). The gentle walk continues through open grasslands used as cattle grazing by local people, ending at post 1, Pemantauan (1,300). The trek concludes at the Rinjani Information Center in Sembalun Lawang, where a car will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel and your next destination.
